Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese treatment that has helped reduce pain and treat other conditions for more than 2500 years. For those who prefer to avoid using pharmaceuticals, it is an excellent option. It provides the means for your body to follow through on healing itself. Combined with chiropractic care, which also has a holistic approach, it offers a two-pronged approach to health care and pain relief. In Springfield, MO, Dr. Brian McDonnell of Chestnut Wellness Center offers both of these options.

Acupuncture

Traditional acupuncture treats the body using the 12 meridians that flow through it. The 12 are associated with organs in the body and the flow of energy. When there are blocks to the flow of energy, pain, and illness can result. Modern acupuncturists still consider removing the block to be vital for optimal health. This is done with thin needles inserted into the skin. Today, acupuncturists also use magnets, lasers, and electric pulses in addition to needles.

Conditions that respond to acupuncture

Chronic pain is the most common reason that people choose to use acupuncture. It is effective in treating pain in the back, neck, and head. It has been shown that migraines respond to acupuncture without the side effects that medication can produce. It is used to treat the side effects of chemotherapy and to deal with post-operative pain. While these are the most common, other conditions can benefit as well, including:

  • Fibromyalgia
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Menstrual cramps
  • Asthma
  • Seasonal allergies
  • Urinary incontinence

Chiropractic care and acupuncture

Chiropractic care and acupuncture share some basic beliefs, including that the body has the ability to heal itself if all things are working at an optimal level. Together they are more effective than either one alone, and they offer patients more choices and ways to avoid taking medication.

Dr. McDonnell of Chestnut Wellness Center in Springfield, MO, offers his patients choices. He provides both chiropractic care and acupuncture. To make an appointment, call our office at 417-869-3400.
